Program Ideas
The idea is to expose the girls to a wide array of gifts so that they can look inside themselves and identify their own. They may find through this process that they love something that they didn’t even know existed or that they originally thought they wouldn’t like. Personally, I am looking forward to the yoga! I have never had the guts to go to a yoga class… but I am fascinated!

 Here are some fun ideas:

Scrap booking… the Chick Leader could lead the girls in creating their own scrapbooks or we (that is what is so cool about this program, everyone is on equal ground except the month's Chick Leader… mothers, daughters, the New Life girls, volunteers, etc.) could each create a page that would go into a scrapbook for someone else, like a military unit serving our country, a missionary group serving others or a cancer treatment center, just anywhere that needs encouragement, especially if the scrapbook pages were built around  poems written by the girls on the subjects of joy, peace, love, hope, etc…

Creative writing… maybe this should come before the scrapbooking!

Singing… our more musically talented members could bring their music group and perform a concert. They could also teach us a song and we could practice the parts then sing it for the music group. Think how that song will resonate in all of our hearts, probably for a lifetime… and bring us back to the love we shared with each other that day!

Drawing… the basics of facial portraits, the techniques are simple if you know what you are doing and though it may sound hard to believe for non artistic types… very teachable, just ask any elementary art teacher! Okay, I can’t help you here, I don’t personally have that skill… but I sure hope we find someone who does!!!

Yoga… the chick leader could lead a yoga class for the group introducing us to the basics of yoga. We would all go away with simple techniques to restore peace when agitated. I need that one!

Sculpting… with ivory soap, one of my favorites!

 Origami…

 Volleyball…

Health and nutrition… someone with a gift for explaining in easy to understand terms why junk food isn’t our friend.

Ministry… we all need empowerment from other women encouraging us to live better lives!  If we don’t have any one in our group that feels her gift is ministry, maybe someone in our group has the power of persuasion and could encourage an incredibly inspirational women’s leader to visit our group.

Quilting project… the chick leader could teach and lead us in making the squares. As a follow up, the leader could put them together in a quilt. The girls of New Life pick an organization (the leader will do the research and give the girls options to choose from) to donate the quilt when it is complete. Pictures taken at the delivery would be nice to share back with the girls along with a nice letter describing the reaction of the recipient. This would be very ambitious and would probably require someone in a quilting group that could take on the follow up… or someone who just loves to quilt!

Baking cookies… How fun! Someone else might want to do a cookie decorating program around Easter or another holiday, bring the cookies already baked and teach us decorating tips then get busy decorating! The chick leader could take the cookies we bake (or decorate) to an organization picked by the girls of New Life, again, take pictures, etc…

Preparing a meal… New Life has a craft room with a complete kitchen on their grounds that overlooks the Guadalupe River.

Basketball or other sport… the chick leader could teach of the basics of shooting and organize a fun relaxed competition. There are indoor and outdoor basketball facilities that seem underutilized. Each time the girls would play later they would have the memories of us playing with them and the time the chick leader spent loving them enough to organize the event.

Gardening… a propagation seminar where everyone learns to make new plants from cuttings. Everyone would go home with a tray (18 plants) to nurture. The chick leader could follow up on her own and go back after 3 month or so and teach the girls to ‘pot up’ their cuttings to 1 gallon pots to give as gifts to their teacher, a favorite staff member, or volunteer.

Obviously, the sky is the limit on how creative each leader is with her gift and her program. These are just ideas off the top of my head. The more we tap into that ‘thing’ we love the most, the more effective the program will be. Don’t by shy!

If you have ever played bunko, think of that organization structure as the basis for this one. The big difference is chicktime groups meet at the same location each month and instead of play bunko; play whatever the chick leader comes up with!
