Cookies for Our Heros
The New Life girls and the Chicks, led by Melanie and her sister Kim, baked and decorated tons of cookies. The girls were able to vote and decided where to send the cookies! They chose our nation's recovering heros...

Powless Guest House- BAMC
I had the honor of delivering the fabulous cookies that were made and decorated on Saturday to the Powless Guest House located near BAMC.  This facility provides recovery housing for GI's injured while fighting the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.  The older gentleman in the picture is a purple heart vet himself who volunteers there and writes poetry about his own battle time that he gives the soldiers to comfort them.  I provided some general written material about our group and New Life (very general) and told them about the girls being unable to have pictures of each other in their scrapbooks for safety reasons.  I told them they will cherish the attached picture as will we.  Save a page in your scrapbook for this one!   (Look how cute the common room is decorated for Valentine's Day - our cookies fit right in!)

It meant alot to me to do this today.  For those that don't know, my eldest brother is serving in Iraq right now and hopefully not for too long.  He's a dentist and in the army reserves.  He's there to take care of others and that's his nature.  Please keep Bill and the thousands of others serving for us in your prayers.

Looking forward to seeing you all next month!

Jennifer

May Chicktime

In May, chicktime brought pampering with spa quality manicures for the New Life girls, brought out their creative side during a soldier letter writing/stationary creating opportunity (check out www.anysoldier.com), and brought lots of laughter and smiles during the game of bunko! Yes, you heard righht, in May the New Life girls played bunko in honor of their favorite charities! The winning charities are posted below. Also included is the letter sent to each charity along with their check. Each cottage at New Life will have a poster displaying the winning charities... I sure hope they get thank you letters from the charities to add to the posters!!!

(This is the letter that accompanied each charitie's donation check!)

Dear Friends,

Your charity was selected by a young girl at New Life Children’s Treatment Center. New Life is a home of hope. The resident girls in treatment are recovering from abuse and/or neglect. They have hope for a better life for themselves, each other, and you and me. They understand that everyone is suffering in one way or another and believe that love will pull us all through.
The girls researched charities and had the opportunity to play for their choice this past Saturday during a tournament. The money was raised by women in our local community that love the girls and want them to experience the joy of giving.

The girls of New Life are so excited to be able to share with you. I know they would love to hear back from your organization if possible! Please address all correspondence to the address and contact name below.

Joyfully,

Lori Rhodes
